Program aims
The program aims to produce graduates who will be able to:

demonstrate a scholarly and informed understanding of the relevance of communication theory in an applied communication/mass media environment within an international context
-
demonstrate general and theoretical skills in one or more areas of professional communication, including communication technology and policy, in an international context
-
determine appropriate and ethically sound research methodologies to problems in an international context.

Program objectives
On successful completion of the program, students will be able to:
-
demonstrate a knowledge of the application of communication theory to a practical communications area and an awareness of the interaction between public opinion and mass media
-
demonstrate the fundamental skills associated with one or more communication media and/or communication policies in an international or comparative context
-
select, apply, and evaluate (under supervision) communication theory appropriately to a range of qualitative and quantitative research tasks in a selected area of international communication.

Admission requirements
Students will require a three-year undergraduate (Bachelor) qualification (with relevant work experience) in any field from an Australian university or a four-year qualification from an USA university or a three-year Honours degree from a British university or a four-year Honours degree from a Scottish university. Applicants from other countries must minimally have a three-year Bachelor qualification but admission will be determined on a country-by-country, case-by-case basis. In all cases, relevant work experience will be taken into consideration. For ease of administration, students will normally apply for, and be admitted to, the Master of International Communication, but might then opt to exit with either the Postgraduate Certificate in International Communication or Postgraduate Diploma of International Communication.

Program fees
Tuition fee

International fees
International students pay tuition fees. For details about international student fees, refer to the International Fee Schedule provided by USQ International.

Program structure
The program is a one-year part-time program available only by the online mode of delivery; maximum time for completion is three years. The program is jointly offered by the Faculty of Arts, University of Southern Queensland (USQ), and the School of Communication Arts, Napier University, Edinburgh, Scotland (NU).
The program comprises four units, including two core courses and two electives. One core course must be selected from each of the two participating universities. .

CA72006 Communication Theory and Practice (NU)
CMS8010 Communication Research Methodology (USQ)
Core course requirements must be met for the Postgraduate Diploma of International Communication and Master of International Communication.

Elective courses
An elective course will be selected from the list of courses in the Advertising and Public Relations or Journalism and Media or Communication Theory strands indicated in the table in the Master of International Communication.

IT requirements
Students must have access to high-level computing capacity (at least Pentium level) including email and Internet access.
