Program focus
The Master of Project Management aims to produce graduates who have appropriate skills and knowledge to be capable of managing small, medium and large-sized projects as a senior team leader, a project manager or project director. Students have a choice from two strands, Project Management and Complex Project Management. Students may also choose specialisations from other Faculty of Business and Law coursework masters programs, such as any of the specialisations from the Master of Business Administration.

Professional accreditation
The Master of Project Management is delivered by USQ as a Global Registered Education Provider with the US-based Project Management Institute (PMI). USQ is endorsed as a National Provider of Project Management education by the Australian Institute of Project Management (AIPM).

Program aims
The Master of Project Management aims to produce graduates who have appropriate skills and knowledge to be capable of managing small, medium and large-sized projects as a senior team leader, a project manager or project director.

Program objectives
Upon completion of the Master of Project Management students will be able to:

demonstrate knowledge of the theoretical structure of project management as defined by the Project Management Body of Knowledge

demonstrate essential skills in relation to identification and analysis of logistics management, and integrate logistics management into the overall operation of the organisation

apply the theoretical principles of project management to a project environment in relation to project:

integration management

apply management skills acquired through elective courses in the context of project management.

Admission requirements
Candidates for entry into the Master of Project Management must:
-
hold at least a 3-year tertiary qualification at bachelor degree or equivalent level from a recognised institution in an appropriate discipline as determined by the Director of Coursework Studies
-
have a minimum of 2 years full-time equivalent relevant work experience as determined by the Director of Coursework Studies.
Candidates who do not have a degree will be permitted to enrol in the Postgraduate Certificate in Business (Project Management), provided that they have a minimum of 3 years full-time equivalent work experience, which includes relevant experience, as determined by the Director of Coursework Studies. Upon completion and achievement of a minimum GPA of 4.0, they will be eligible to articulate into the Master of Project Management.
International candidates for admission into this program must meet the University's English language proficiency requirements for postgraduate students. Please refer to Section 2.2.3 of the Admissions Policy .

Domestic students
Application for postgraduate programs may be made directly to USQ.
International students
This program is offered to international students. An international student is a person who is not an Australian or New Zealand citizen and not an Australian permanent resident. Please refer to USQ International for information about entry requirements, visa arrangements and how to apply.

Program fees
Domestic full fee paying place
Domestic full fee paying places are funded entirely through
the full fees paid by the student. Full fees vary depending on the
courses that are taken. You are able to calculate the fees for a particular
course via the Course Fee Finder.
Permanent Humanitarian Visa holders,
Permanent Resident visa holders and New Zealand citizens who reside
outside Australia pay full tuition fees.
Domestic full fee paying
students may be eligible to defer their fees through a Government
loan called FEE-HELP.
International full fee paying place
International students pay full fees. Full fees vary depending on the courses that are taken and whether they are studied on-campus, via distance education/online. You are able to calculate the fees for a particular course via the Course Fee Finder.

The Master of Project Management has two strands: Project Management and Complex Project Management. Each is comprised of 8 single-unit courses as follows:

Electives
Students may complete any 4 courses at 5000 or 8000 level from the Faculty of Business and Law coursework Master programs subject to prerequisite requirements. Alternately students may choose 5000 or 8000 coursework courses from any USQ Master program with the approval of the Director of Coursework Studies.

IT requirements

Students must maintain good standing in this program. Please refer to Section 2 of the Academic Standing, Progression and Exclusion Policy.

Articulation
On completion of the Master of Project Management, students may apply for entry into the Master of Business Administration program. The number of courses to be completed to satisfy the requirements to graduate from the Master of Business Administration will depend on the courses completed in the Master of Project Management. Students wishing to consider this option should discuss their choice of courses with the Director of Coursework Studies.
It is possible for students who do not meet standard admission requirements to articulate into the Master of Project Management from the Postgraduate Certificate in Business provided they have achieved a GPA of at least 4.0.
Students who wish to articulate to the higher award must lodge an application for entry to the relevant program.

Exit points
Students who do not complete the Master of Project Management, but who satisfy all the requirements of the Postgraduate Certificate in Business may be permitted to exit with that qualification.

Exemptions
Candidates for admission to the Master of Project Management may be eligible for up to 4 units of exemption on the basis of either:
-
prior successful completion of relevant, equivalent postgraduate study from a recognised university or institution offering equivalent study; or
-
accreditation from the Australian Institute of Project Management in their RegPM accreditation program, but only if accreditation is achieved at Certified Practising Project Manager (CPPM) level or higher, and only after completion of the 4 core courses for this program. Refer to the Faculty of Business and Law for further information. An exemption granted under this provision will be for one unit only and will be included in the maximum number of exemptions available for this program as indicated above.
Claims for exemption should be submitted prior to or at the time of enrolment in a course. Each claim will be assessed on individual merit in line with the Faculty's exemption policies. Exemptions approved in this program will not automatically apply to other programs offered by USQ.

The recommended enrolment pattern set out in the table below is for a part-time student commencing the program in semester 1. It is strongly recommended that students enrol in MGT8022 Project-Based Management prior to, or at the same time as, enrolling in subsequent project management courses.
Some of the courses in the Master of Project Management are offered in more than one semester. This provides flexibility for students and, consequently, there will be many different enrolment patterns.
