Program focus

These Engineering Management programs provide graduates with knowledge of selected basic concepts and skills associated with engineering management in areas, such as sustainable development, technical risk assessment, and engineering asset management. The aim of the Master of Engineering Management program is to produce graduates who are equipped with essential management knowledge and an appreciation of the latest technologies much broader than their initial specialisation. The skill set would therefore allow the graduate to manage more complex technological or engineering businesses.

Program objectives

Students who successfully complete the Postgraduate Certificate in Engineering Management will be able to demonstrate an ability to:

• evaluate critically knowledge from the professional journals and other information sources relevant to engineering fields

• apply knowledge of selected basic concepts and skills associated with engineering management in areas such as sustainable development, technical risk assessment, and engineering asset management.

Admission requirements

To be eligible for admission to the program, candidates must possess an appropriate three-year science-based bachelor degree, which will normally be in Engineering or Surveying, awarded by an Australian university, or an equivalent qualification awarded by an overseas institution plus two years of appropriate full-time equivalent work experience; OR an appropriate four-year science-based bachelor degree, which will normally be in Engineering or Surveying.

Candidates who do not hold an undergraduate degree will be considered for admission if they have had a minimum of five years full-time equivalent relevant and appropriate work experience as determined by the Dean, Faculty of Engineering and Surveying, University of Southern Queensland.

The standing of degrees awarded by an overseas institution will be determined by reference to the National Office of Overseas Skills Recognition (NOOSR).

International candidates for admission into this program must meet the University's English language proficiency requirements for postgraduate students. Refer to Academic Regulation 5.4.

Program fees

Tuition fee

Domestic fee-paying places are funded entirely through the tuition/direct fees paid by the student. Tuition/direct fees vary depending on the courses that are taken. For more information about Tuition Fees, including the calculation of fees for a particular program of study, refer to USQ Fees.

International fees

Program structure

The Postgraduate Certificate in Engineering Management comprises four single-unit courses.

Required time limits

Full-time students have a maximum of 2 years to complete this program. Part-time students have a maximum of 2 years to complete this program.
A pro-rata adjustment of the maximum time period will apply for those students who transfer from one mode of study to another. A pro-rata reduction in the maximum time period will apply to students who are admitted to a program with advanced standing.

Articulation

Students who complete this program are eligible to articulate into the Master of Engineering Management. They may also articulate into the Master of Professional Engineering, provided they also meet the entry requirements of that program.

Only students who possess a four-year qualification in engineering awarded by an Australian university, or an equivalent qualification awarded by an overseas institution, may articulate into the Master of Professional Engineering.

The standing of degrees awarded by an overseas institution will be determined by reference to the National Office of Overseas Skills Recognition (NOOSR).

Exemptions

No exemptions will be permitted for the Postgraduate Certificate in Engineering Management.

Students must complete four courses from the schedule below, including at least three courses from Group 1.
