EO (Equal Opportunity) Online training

The University is committed to providing a positive, supportive environment that is free from all forms of discrimination and harassment, and where all students and employees are treated fairly and equitably.  EO Online training aims to assist with this goal.

What is EO Online training

EO Online is an online training program for staff covering the areas of equal opportunity, discrimination and harassment.  It has been developed specifically for employees in the higher education sector by a consortium of Australian universities.  It is a self-paced learning program that is easy to access and use.  EO Online uses real life case studies and interactive learning techniques to explore principles, terminology and application of legislation.

Content of the program

EO Online covers theoretical knowledge and a practical understanding of how to apply equal opportunity principles in work and study environments.  The program provides information about:

  • Australian anti-discrimination legislation
  • How to identify discrimination and harassment
  • The anti-discrimination and harassment complaints process
  • Your rights and obligations in this area

The program is structured into two Modules, and anticipated learning outcomes include:

  • learning how to deal with and prevent discrimination and harassment in the workplace
  • understanding legal rights and responsibilities, to achieve a discrimination and harassment free campus
  • increasing awareness of equity policies, issues and strategies in the workplace
  • having a reference for dealing with issues and grievances.

Completion of the program

All continuing and fixed term employees are required to complete Module 1 of the training program.  Employees with management or supervisory responsibilities, including the supervision of students, are required to complete both Modules 1 and 2 of the program.

EO Online modules must be completed, as appropriate, by all employees every two years.

Modules can be completed in one or more sessions and each module should take around 45 minutes to 1 hour to complete.  On completion of each Module, employees will be requested to complete an electronic registration form which will automatically be forwarded to Human Resources for record keeping purposes.. A Certificate of Attainment will automatically be sent to your email address. Employees are encouraged to save a copy of this certificate for their own personal records.

Accessing EO Online

EO Online has built-in security measures which allow employees to access the program on campus without a username and password.

Employees who are accessing EO Online from home or through another network or domain will be prompted to enter a username and password. These can be obtained through the Staff Equity and Diversity Office.
