W1.2 Standard

Access to University workshops is restricted to authorised personnel and those under their supervision.

W1.3 Procedures

Employees, students, contractors and visitors are restricted from entering University workshops unless:

(1) they are trained and proficient in the operation of workshop equipment;  or

(2) they are working under the supervision of a trained operator and are undertaking simple or straightforward tasks.

The Supervisor in charge of the workshop must ensure that any students and employees using the workshop equipment are trained in the correct operating procedures and safety requirements for machinery in the workshops;  and that records are kept.  To assist with the management of this requirement a Work Permit (see Attachment 1) should be used.  This form has been developed in the Faculty of Arts and may be adapted for use in other faculties and departments.
