Information Security
USQ provides access to information, computing and communication resources to support its mission of teaching, research and community services. Each resource is vital to the continued successful operation of the University's business.
Information security at USQ is concerned with ensuring the availability, integrity and confidentiality of the University's information and information systems in a manner that is compliant with legislative, statutory and regulatory requirements, aligned with business requirements and commensurate with threat assessments.
Responsibility for Information Security Management
Everyone has a responsibility to use the University's resources in a responsible and considerate manner, and should familiarise themselves with USQ's Information Technology Policies within the USQ Policy Library.
Specific responsibilities for USQ information resource managers and administrators are defined in the University Policy on Information Technology Security Management, and include ensuring that:
-
appropriate and reasonable security practices are employed for resources under their control;
-
each and every information resource is identified and managed;
-
each identified information resource is classified for sensitivity; and,
-
development, implementation, auditing and review of security practices are a continuous process.
The University has also appointed an Information Security Coordinator reporting to the Chief Technology Officer, Division of ICT Services to consult extensively with ICT professionals and senior managers within the University and externally. The Security Coordinator is accountable for effective and efficient management and delivery of information security services to the University community and for providing technical knowledge, security oriented expertise and project management experience, to ensure that all ICT security activities are aligned with and compliment the ICT strategic plans of the University.
Any requests, concerns, incidents or suggestions relating to information security are welcome and can be submitted to the Information Security Coordinator. USQ staff with an interest in information security can also subscribe to the USQ Information Systems Security: Special Interest Group (only genuine subscribers will be admitted to this list).
