Access to USQ Network for Non-USQ Assets
ICT on behalf of the University is able to offer Staff, Postgraduate Students and Visitors the ability to connect computers that are not owned by USQ to the staff network.
To gain access, read the terms and conditions then apply for connection.
Terms and Conditions
Authority
Security and integrity of the corporate computing network is the responsibility of the Chief Technology Officer, Division of ICT Services). Connecting non-USQ computing equipment to the University's network infrastructure carries considerable risk and therefore, approval can only be granted by the Chief Technology Officer, Division of ICT Services. Requests must have the support of the relevant Dean/Head of Department. Applications will then be forwarded to the Chief Technology Officer, Division of ICT Services for approval.
Compliance with Design and Configuration Standards
Prior to connection, ICT Support Staff may need to inspect the computing equipment to ensure that it meets the current design and configuration standards as established by ICT. Any concerns in this regard will be reported to the requestor. Major items of non-compliance may preclude connection to the University's network infrastructure. Final approval rests with the Chief Technology Officer, Division of ICT Services.
Network Connection Configuration
Prior to connection, ICT Support Staff will specify the configuration of the network connection. This may include, but is not limited to:
-
Connection to a quarantined virtual Local Area Network
-
Connection via non-routable IP address
-
Establishment of the connection either inside or outside the University's firewall.
Management
Unless otherwise agreed, ICT Support Staff will not be responsible for administration and management of the non-USQ owned computing equipment.
-
ICT Support Staff will be responsible for enabling the non-USQ owned computing equipment to be connected to the network and diagnosis of any condition associated with the connectivity to the network.
-
Any other requests for assistance in relation to fault finding and diagnostics or installation of software or services that are allowable under legitimate licencing agreements will be subject to a fee for service and must be approved in advance by the relevant Dean/Head of Department or arrangement for payment by the client before any work shall be undertaken.
-
If the non-USQ owned computing equipment is no longer compliant or where required, ICT Support Staff may physically or logically disconnect this equipment from the University's network infrastructure.
-
ICT Support Staff will attempt to notify the owner of the computer equipment prior to disconnection. Where this not possible, the device will be disconnected and notification of an appropriate form given to the owner of the equipment. If deemed necessary, ICT Support Staff may physically move the equipment. Again, prior notice to the device owner will be attempted.
Liability
USQ accepts no responsibility for any privately owned or third party computing equipment that is physically connected to the University's network infrastructure, or equipment that has previously met this criteria and that were subsequently disconnected from the network by ICT Support Staff and/or physically moved by ICT Support Staff, or any worked undertaken by ICT Support Staff on such equipment.
The University accepts no liability for equipment adversely affected as a result of being attached to the University computing network or from the actions of staff in their attempts to protect the integrity and security of the network.
Software
Most University software site licenses and volume agreements are specifically restricted to software deployed on University assets. No University software can be loaded onto computers not owned by the University unless it meets the University's licence agreement conditions. A list of complying software can be obtained from the Supported Software page.
If University license agreements do not extend to assets not owned by the University, then a normal retail version of the software needs to be purchased.
ICT Support Staff are not able to work on computer operating systems that are not English.
It is the responsibility of the owner of the non-USQ owned computing equipment to have an updated version of anti-virus software loaded on their computer prior to applying to have the equipment connected to the University's network.
It is also the responsibility of the owner of the non-USQ computing equipment to have the Virus Definitions kept up-to-date on their equipment whilst connected to the USQ network.
