Microsoft Office 2007

The Office 2007 image is currently loaded in the Student Labs and will be loaded in the Lecture Theatres for Semester 1, 2009.

Staff can now request to have Office 2007 loaded on their computers providing their computer hardware is capable of running the 2007 applications (their work station computer has been purchased or upgraded through the Refresh program in the last two years) and they do not use the specific PeopleSoft features detailed below or use IPLOD.

PeopleSoft Applications

There are known problems with PeopleSoft HR and Student Admin where specific features do not work in Office 2007.  Staff who use these features should not upgrade to Office 2007 until the PeopleSoft upgrade is completed in 2009.  These knowns problems are as follows:

PeopleSoft HR

  • The ability to output queries to Excel 2007 in order to print and record them does not work.  Letter generation does not work so staff will not be able to generate letters using PeopleSoft HR and Excel 2007.

PeopleSoft Student Admin

  • Letter generation does not work so staff will not be able to generate letters using PeopleSoft Student Admin and Word 2007.  (Reporting in Excel does work, but people using PeopleSoft Student Admin reports may have to click through error messages as Excel 2007 opens.)

IPLOD

IPLOD (Internet PowerPoint Lecture on Demand) is not compatible with Office 2007.  A replacement for IPLOD is currently under investigation and will be available prior to Semester 1, 2009.

File Compability – Previous Office Versions, ICE, Breeze

When it is loaded on your computer, the Office 2007 image will by default save files in a format that will be able to be opened by previous versions of Office and that will work with ICE and the current version of Breeze.  These files will be saved with the Office 2003 extensions (eg doc, xls, ppt)

Staff wishing to save files in the new Office 2007 XML format will have to specify this format at the time of saving. These files will have the Office 2007 "x" extensions (eg docx, xlsx, pptx) and will not open in previous versions of Office unless the person opening them has an Office 2007 converter

Office 2007 Training

ICT Training will be offering courses in Office 2007 progressively from June 2008 onwards and we recommend staff having Office 2007 installed attend these training sessions.

Requesting the Office 2007 Image

You can request Office 2007 to be installed on your computer by logging a job through ICT Self Service.
