Australian quarantine

Australia is an island that has been isolated from many of the exotic plant and animal diseases that have devastated other parts of the world's agricultural, environmental and tourism industries. The Australian Quarantine and Inspection Service and the Australian Customs Service are the guardians of this island nation and try to make sure that all food, plant material and animal products entering Australia are free from potential pests and diseases OR destroyed before entering Australia.

So to avoid risking Australia's unique environment, getting an on-the-spot fine, being prosecuted through the Australian court system (which could result in fines of up to AUD60,000- and / or a jail term), you, your family and friends need to be aware of what you can not bring into Australia.

The Australian Quarantine and Inspection Service (AQIS) provides information on what not to bring and what cannot be mailed to you, in English and multiple languages to ensure all travellers are aware of the regulations and are aware of what items need to be left at home.

Contact the Australian Quarantine and Inspection Service by email at international.mail@aqis.gov.au or telephone +61 2 6272 3933 / 1800 020 504 (free call within Australia) for further information.
