I’m the Campus Business Manager at the Fraser Coast campus and joined USQ in September 2004. Prior to this, I worked for defence for 22 years and served in some very challenging and demanding roles in resource management. I have 29 years of industry experience and have been responsible for key projects, including planning and managing defence deployments overseas; to being responsible for the business management of the Fraser Coast campus. Over the span of my career, I have received four commendations for excellence; the most recent a commendation for excellence in innovation and process improvement from USQ.
My day to day role is quite busy and demands a broad range of skills, knowledge and a strong commitment to the business. The upside of this is I am supported by colleagues with a vast range of skills and industry experience who assist me in succeeding and getting the business done. I especially like the culture of working at USQ. It’s supportive, flexible and we are team focused on helping learning reach their goals. I know first-hand that the community also recognises the strength of this team.
While I don’t have a large amount of direct contact with students, a key function of my role is being responsive to the needs of employees who work directly with students. A crucial element in achieving this function is having the ability to communicate, which I think we do really well.
USQ is a unique organisation, because its core business is education and USQ really does focus on professional development and providing real opportunities to its employees. My work-place actively encourages me to invest in my own education through providing financial and other support. This is a win-win situation.
