Learning spaces summit
USQ Learning Spaces Summit formed part of the university-wide collaboration process about virtual and physical learning spaces.
Session 1: ‘It's not just what you do, it's the way that you do it'
Presenter - Professor Lynne Hunt
Professor Hunt presented a number of implementation concepts to the group. The concepts focussed on the following points in regard to learning spaces:
University entrance
- Does USQ represent a place of learning to its community?
- Testimonial Walls – ‘Celebration of Success' i.e..e. pictures of students and their testimonials displayed in entry.
Small learning spaces
These are flexible spaces with mobile furniture. Open design creates transparency and space for the development of faculty/student interaction.
- Box Cars – These are small, self-contained learning spaces equipped with tables, chairs, notice board, white board and projection equipment to facilitate team learning culture. The Library and corridor spaces in faculties are options for location.
- Knowledge Bar – coffee bar setting located near or adjacent to classrooms to encourage openness, discussion between staff and students; collaboration in a social setting
