Deborah Southwell

Deborah Southwell is the Director, Learning and Teaching Development at QUT. Deborah is responsible for the oversight and deployment of institutional initiatives related to strategic teaching and learning priorities and outcomes including awards and grants services, academic staff development and curriculum design and implementation.

Deborah has led a number of national projects – one on Effective strategies for the dissemination of project outcomes and a leadership project: ‘Caught between a rock and several hard places’: Cultivating the roles of the Associate Dean (Teaching and Learning). Deborah has recently completed a literature review commissioned by the Australian Learning and Teaching Council (ALTC) on the topic of Leadership and the impact of academic staff development and leadership development on student learning outcomes in higher education.

In acknowledgement of her exemplary and extensive leadership in the higher education sector, Deborah received a citation from ALTC this year for thoughtful and resilient leadership that has nurtured constructive teaching and learning support and mentored effective leadership practice locally and nationally.
