Seminar - 'What is the place of research in the scholarship of teaching and learning?'

Abstract: Boyer's ideas form the basis of much of the recent development in the scholarship of teaching and learning. One of the reasons he proposed the concept of four scholarships was to enhance the status of teaching, yet in Hong Kong, and in many places in Australia, the scholarship of teaching and learning is being seen as research into teaching, with research (the scholarship of discovery) as again taking prominence. Does it matter? What are the alternatives? This presentation uses a student-focused approach to address these questions, and looks at research-led teaching and where it may be going.
