Assessment
Assessment is the curriculum, as far as students are concerned. They will learn what they think they will be assessed on, not what is in the curriculum, or even what has been "covered' in class. - John Biggs
Assessment is generally thought of as a process designed to measure student achievement. However, assessment is more than this. It can also be a learning process where students engage with materials, authentic experiences and people, and receive feedback on this process that helps their learning.
Recent thinking conceptualises assessment as a means of developing students' capacities, skills and attributes, including the capacity for lifelong learning and personal and professional judgement.1
