Assessment for learning

Assessment for learning focuses on assessment as a learning process.

This type of assessment can engage students in particular learning processes and experiences. It directs students to actively engage with particular aspects of disciplinary knowledge.

It can also be designed to engage students in processes where they learn by interacting with others, including the teacher, each other or other external stakeholders such as workplace colleagues and supervisors.

Formative assessment also helps students learn through the process of submitting assessment, receiving timely feedback and using this feedback to improve their learning in later assessment tasks.
