Curriculum Resources

Curriculum Collection

The USQ Library houses a range of curriculum resources in different formats, which support student teachers in the teaching and practical aspects of their course, primarily activities based materials to assist in class planning and development for Early Childhood, Primary and Secondary School levels.

Curriculum material is arranged by call number within the following groupings. Call numbers are allocated according to subject areas, so items on a particular subject can be found at the same number in the different groupings, and in the main library collection.

Kits

Kits mainly consists of games, science activities, card sets, containers & hands on educational kits with student guides.

Charts & Posters

The chart collection houses wall charts (such as the human body), picture charts (such as animals & transport), as well as poster packs which usually consists of a poster, an activity sheet and 1 booklet.

Curriculum books

This collection has call numbers the same as the rest of the library. These books contain black-line masters, lesson plans and ideas. They are generally activity books relating to their subject areas.

Reading Schemes

Reading schemes (not to be confused with the junior fiction books), is a collection of graduated levels of reading that include a teachers guide. These books are used in a classroom situation to gauge a child’s reading level and for classroom presentations for the student teacher.

Puppets

Our hand puppets, which are often used in conjunction with the Big Books, range from small insects to large sheep dogs, puppets for most topics and themes, perfect for story telling in the classroom.

Tests

We have numerous tests, but these are for restricted use. Only authorised users are permitted to borrow them, and for that reason they are housed behind the loans desk.

Syllabus

The Syllabus and its supporting documents (modules), provide advice about learning and teaching. These materials assist teachers or student teachers to plan programs that help students achieve the Syllabus goal. They include a number of models for generating classroom practices, selecting appropriate resources and learning activities, and identifying and sequencing learning objectives for individuals and for groups of students.

Audiovisual

This collection comprises CD-ROMs, videos and DVDs, music CDs and cassettes. NOTE: At present, the primarily activities based material is housed separately, but it is planned to integrate this material into the main Audiovisual collection.
