Classes and tours

The USQ Library offers tours of the Library and classes to students to assist with finding information for their assignments. Library classes are also offered to off-campus students (including separate Residential School classes). EndNote training is offered to academic staff, researchers and students.

Library tours

Overview: A tour will provide information about services, resources and facilities the Library offers as well as brief information about Library regulations.
Audience:

All students welcome.

Tours of the Library can also be arranged for people not affiliated with USQ, including school groups wishing to use our facilities. There is no minimum or maximum number of participants.

Duration: Approximately 30 minutes
Times:

Toowoomba Campus

During Semester 1 2012 Orientation week, Library tours will be conducted at the following times:

  • Sunday 19 February - all day between 10:00am and 3:00pm
  • Monday 20 February - 10:00am, 11:00am, 1:00pm
  • Tuesday 21 February - 10:00am, 11:00am, 1:00pm

To join a tour, meet at the Information Desk, level 3.

Library tours are also being conducted as part of the campus tours run on Sunday 19, Monday 20 and Tuesday 21 February. If you miss these tours, individual tours can be arranged at any other time. Ask at the Information Desk, level 3.

Springfield Campus

During Semester 1 2012 Orientation week, Library tours will be conducted at the following times:

  • Monday 20 February - every 15 minutes between 12:30pm and 1:45pm

Please contact the Library if you would like to arrange an individual or group tour at another time.

Fraser Coast Campus

No organised Library tours are being conducted.  Please see USQ Information Desk staff for information about services and facilities.

Overview: This class will cover the Library homepage, how to use the Library catalogue to locate books and how to access and use online databases to find journal articles for your assignments. This class will also cover evaluating information and discuss information quality.
Audience: All students welcome
Duration: One and a half hours

Regular classes are offered throughout the year in the first 4 weeks of each semester specific to each campus. Campus: Toowoomba and Springfield

Finding Information for your Assignments - Online Library Session     book into Finding Information for Your Assignments - Super Library Session

Overview: This class will cover the Library homepage, how to use the Library catalogue to locate books and how to access and use online databases to find journal articles for your assignments. This class will also cover evaluating information and discuss information quality.
This class will be conducted online in an interactive format using software called Wimba. High-speed (broadband) access to the Internet is preferred, but you may be able to participate with other access. Prior to the class, you need to download and setup Wimba; instructions will be emailed to you on completing this step.
Audience: All students welcome
Duration: One and a half hours

 Residential School workshops for Library Skills

Overview: This session covers how to use the online library resources such as ebooks and online journals, how to use the Library catalogue, and how eligible students can request loans and photocopies from USQ Library.
Audience: Off-campus students
Duration: One hour

EndNote training    register for your EndNote class

Overview: This class covers basic features of EndNote, starting your EndNote library, working in your manuscript or word document with EndNote as well as formatting citations and generating a list of references or bibliography in a chosen referencing style.
Audience: Students, researchers and academic staff
Duration: Two and a half hours

Learning Skills Workshops

Learning Skills Workshops are also offered by the Learning Centre on a variety of topics such as academic writing, presentations, and preparing for exams, as well as maths and calculator workshops.
