Basic search
Use a Browse Search when you know the author, title, call number or subject heading.
Note: Journal articles are not found in the library catalogue. Only journal titles can be searched in the library catalogue - not the title of a journal article.
To conduct a Browse search follow the steps below:

From the drop down box, select the Search Type (e.g. author, title, call number).

Type the details into the search box. Ignore punctuation. Omit A or AN or THE from the beginning of a title.

Click on Start Search.

From the list provided select the record you require.
The item catalogue record will tell you the resource's:
-
location - for example, Toowoomba Main Collection
-
status - whether it is available for loan, for example, Available
-
call number - where it is on the shelf, or if it is an online resource - the URL link
Click on More Details Record for more information such as subject headings and for some resources - chapter headings.
What if the resource you want is already on loan?

if the status of the resource has a due date then this resource is already on loan
-
you can place a request by clicking on the REQUEST box and entering your details

you will be notified when it is returned to the library

or you can find other resources on the same subject by clicking on the subject headings of the resource you originally wanted

subject headings are hyperlinks to other resources sharing the same subject headings.

Browse search also allows you to search for resources by their subject headings
-
subject headings are specific words used by the library to describe the content of each resource
-
examples of subject headings used in the catalogue are: Communication; Tourism; Psychology; Bridges; Wounds.
