Using catalogue filters
You can turn on filters to refine your catalogue search in order to find items held by the Library which are:
-
in a particular format, for example, DVDs
-
a certain type, for example, dictionaries
-
located in a special area of the Library, for example, in the Stack collection.
After you have finished using these filters, turn them off by clicking on the CLEAR button, otherwise they will continue to limit your search results.
To use filters, click on the Keyword or Basic search, then click on Limit Your Search Using Filters.
In the list boxes, select one or more filters then click on SAVE. Use the Control key to select multiple terms.
All the examples below refer to using the Filters from the Keyword Search screen.
Nature of contents filter
Allows you to search for books by type.
For example: To find what German dictionaries are held in the Library, select Dictionaries, then click on SAVE. This will take you back to the Keyword Search screen. Type German in the Keyword search box, and click on Search.
Format filter
Allows you to search for items by format.
For example: If you want to find the musical scores by Mozart held in the Library, select Music, then click on SAVE. This will take you back to the Keyword Search. Type Mozart in the Keyword search box, and click on Search. Or, if you want to find which videorecordings/ DVDs the library holds on negotiation, select Visual Materials - Videorecordings as your filter, then type negotiation into the Keyword search box, and click on Search.
Location filter
Allows you to search for items held in different campus Libraries.
For example: If you want to find items held in Springfield Library only, limit to Springfield. If you want items held in the Toowoomba Pedagogical Resource Centre (PRC) then limit to Educational Materials Laboratory (EML). NOTE: Only Springfield students can borrow Springfield items; only Fraser Coast students can borrow Fraser Coast items. Toowoomba items are available to all students.
Date range
Allows you to see what books the library holds in a selected date range.
For example: Enter the year dates in each search box, eg: 2003 - 2005. Click on SAVE. Go to the Keyword Search and type your subject or topic into the Keyword search box, and click on Search.
