Connection Files

What is a Connection File?

The Connect command in EndNote lets you connect directly to online bibliographic databases, search for the references you need, and retrieve those references without ever leaving EndNote.

What this means to you as a user of EndNote is that many bibliographic databases can be searched using the EndNote search interface, and the results can be retrieved directly into EndNote without having to go through the intermediate steps of downloading the data to a text file and importing that file.

Try some from the following folders:

  • DIMDI (freely available health sciences databases)
  • Library catalogues
  • NLM (freely available health sciences databases)

You may find you get more accurate search results by using the search engine provided with a database and importing, rather than by using EndNote's connection file to search.

Click on the  link above to download the file and save it to your Connections  folder in EndNote (Usually c:\\Program Files\EndNote\Connections). If this doesn't work right click your mouse, choose Save Target As and save it into your EndNote Connections folder. Once you have saved the file you may need to close down EndNote and then re-open it before the file will appear in the list of Connection files.
