Informit into EndNote

Each Informit database has a different record structure. If you wish to import records into your EndNote library, you must search one database at a time. If you select multiple databases to search simultaneously, you will not be able to import your results into EndNote.

  1. Check the records which you wish to download. Note that a maximum of 200 records can be downloaded at one time. We strongly recommend that you save your marked records frequently because the Informit system has a tendency to clear the marked records without warning
  2. Click on Save and a new screen will be displayed
  3. Under Records to Save, the option Marked Records should be checked
  4. We suggest that you uncheck the option Clear marked records after Save. Wait until you have saved your records and checked that the correct records have been saved before clearing the marked records
  5. Under Label Format,    select Short Labels
  6. Under Fields to Save,  select Complete Record
  7. Under Extra Options,   unselect Save Search History
  8. Under Output Format,  select EndNote

Importing Informit into EndNote

    9.    The click on Save Records
  10.    Import the saved file using the EndNote Import filter which comes with EndNote

The records will appear in a new EndNote window. Now is a good time to check the records as these records usually need editing and to add your own information before including these records in your working library. To view all records in your library go to References/ Show All References

Your other option is to save the records as a plain text file (.txt) and use a specific filter. Filters for the following Informit databases are available for download from the University of Queensland Filters Page .

AGIS (Attorney General’s Information Service
APAIS (Australian Public Affairs Information Service)
ARCH (Australian Architecture Database)

Instructions for Saving Filters

  1. Locate the filter – read any notes
  2. Right click on the filter and select Save As
  3. Save the filter into your EndNote Filters Folder. This is usually found on  your
             c: drive under Program Files/ EndNote/ Filters
  4. If you have EndNote open when you import the filter you will need to close the program and then re-open it. This will then place the filter in the correct alphabetic order
  5. Import your downloaded records using this filter
  6. The records will require considerable editing after import
