Safety and evacuation procedures

Safety staff

Y block has a Building Warden and a Deputy Building Warden. Each level of the building has a Floor Warden. See Safety Staff members for current members.

Safety is the responsibility of all occupants. Each level is divided into zones with Safety Squad members assigned to each zone. Safety Squad members assist the Building Wardens and Area Wardens.

Emergencies

For all emergencies telephone:
Working hours (8.00am - 5.00pm) X 2222

  • the Chief Warden will advise the Fire Brigade on its arrival of any persons with a disability in the building and the Fire Brigade will determine a method of evacuation
  • following evacuation, keep clear of building entrances

  • keep the caller talking as long as possible and do not hang up
  • attract a nearby person in your area and write a note alerting them to the situation; that person should call Emergency telephone X 2222
  • do not activate the alarm system
  • when direction to evacuate is given, move to a safe area well away from the building
  • follow the direction of Safety Staff and do not re-enter until directed.
