Course CD/DVD delivery
The course CD/DVD package
Course CD delivery involves the provision of course content through a resource-based learning package, supplemented by selected interactive teaching support activities using communication technologies or face-to-face sessions.
Course CD delivery enables all students to access core content in a variety of formats consolidated onto a single CD and supplemented with teaching support activities specifically designed for the particular course, program or discipline, and delivery context (e.g. Fraser Coast).
Prerequisites for course CD delivery
In order for a course to be able to be prepared for course CD delivery there are a number of prerequisites that must be agreed upon.
Use of ICE cross media publishing system
In order for content to be produced for CD delivery the files for study modules and introductory materials must be produced in a cross media publishing system such as ICE. For an existing course, this may mean conversion of the files usually used in the DeC publishing process (i.e. Frame files) to ICE XHTML. Use of ICE files is beneficial in that if there is a need to produce content in either print or online mode as well as on CD, this can be accommodated.
Non-negotiable submission dates
There are many steps required to produce a course CD. Because of this, timelines set for transmodal delivery cannot be extended. If you are unable to meet these deadlines, it does not mean conversion to course CD delivery can not go ahead. It means that DeC staff will work with you to prepare a schedule for an incremental conversion. The aim always will be to have completed the package in time for timely delivery to students.
Incremental development
In most cases, a course is converted to course CD delivery over a number of semesters. The first step is conversion of the content to ICE files. This usually occurs the semester before the first offer of the course on CD. While this is happening, planning and preparation of media elements commences. As elements are completed, they can be delivered online.
