Rachel Azulie has been working as a mixed media artist for more than 20 years, with a background in fashion design and wearable art. Her creations have found there way onto catwalks, the stage, galleries and boutiques across Australia and London, where she was born. Specialising in contemporary jewellery, Rachel now works primarily with precious metal clay and polymer clay, experimenting with texture, colour and the juxtaposition of organic and geometric form.
Her approach to teaching is best described as an intensive in sharing rather than formal instruction, providing essential skills and techniques to students without losing sight of their personal expression. Course Synopsis
In this workshop students will be working with two contemporary clays, precious metal clay (fine silver .999) and polymer clay. Both are soft and malleable, sharing similar and techniques and skills.
To commence, students will be taken through the process of design, process and procedure, as well as the preparation of tools. The metal clay component of this workshop will cover basic and intermediate techniques for working with silver clay, including handling, firing and finishing. The polymer clay component will introduce students to techniques in replicating semi-precious stones including agate, turquoise and jade. The two clays will then be brought together to create contemporary jewellery.
