Course Synopsis

Working in an abstract way from the imagination to start with, participants will experience total freedom in mark making, use of colour, texture and materials. Once this feeling of freedom is established, the figure and still life objects will be introduced.

Freedom to explore will be encouraged. Anatomical detail will not be an issue at first, instead “take a line for a walk”. Discovery will come from experimentation. One aim is to become familiar with the figure and still life objects and feel uninhibited in referring to them in drawing and painting. The other aim is to feel free to create images, which in themselves work in an abstract way and do not necessarily refer directly to any known subject matter.

Acrylic paint will be the main medium used but drawing, collaging, splashing, scraping etc and using any other materials will be encouraged.
