Project UPcycle!
Tutor in Residence
Rebecca Lewis from Ipswich
Rebecca has been sewing and UPcycling as long as she can remember. She learned to sew with her great grandmother and her mum and has grown up in a family passionate about recycling and reusing. An avid op-shopper and hoarder she loves the challenge of using pre-loved items to create new garments, accessories and homewares. Rebecca currently designs and UPcycles for her micro business – Little Brown Dog and co-owns Cultiver; indie arts and design, in Ipswich. She has previously run an UPcycling weekend with ATASDA and she holds weekly sewing classes and monthly screenprint workshops at Cultiver.
Class Synopsis
UPcycling – the art of reusing unwanted items, reworking and reinventing them to make something of equal or greater use and beauty.
Throughout this class you will learn different techniques to transform pre-loved clothing, old tablecloths, tea towels, sheets, doilies, discarded materials, vintage fabrics and remnants into a range of unique UPcycled clothing, homeward and accessories. We will chop, rearrange, restyle, applique, embellish, sew and print and you will finish with a refreshed and personalised wardrobe and perhaps some goodies for family and friends.
