Co-Directors of Music

Alan Smith, Co-Concert Master of The Queensland Orchestra and Shaun Dorney, Director of Music Brisbane Regional Youth Orchestra will once again join forces to ensure you have a fun filled, action packed time of fine music making in 2009.

In selecting tutors they have sought the finest performing musicians and teachers available to offer you the best opportunities to perform and an excellent series of evening tutor concerts designed to delight both music students and general public alike.

Shaun Dorney will conduct the McGregor Symphonic Winds and direct the day to day running of the Music segment of the School. This is Shaun's 33rd year with the McGregor Summer School. Shaun is National Past President of ABODA, the Australian Band and Orchestra Directors Association, which is aimed at furthering the skills of Australia's conductors.

As Director of the Brisbane Regional Youth Orchestra, Shaun has been musical director for various music camps and festivals across the nation. He has adjudicated at many eisteddfods and was program consultant and assistant Musical Director for the Brisbane Festival's highly successful What a Classic! And all that Jazz! series with Tommy Tycho and 500 musicians.

Shaun is also Music Coordinator for the Logan-Albert Beaudesert District, Education Queensland, organising instrumental music camps, festivals and functions catering for in excess of 4,200 students annually in over 55 schools and providing professional development and support to Primary and Secondary Music Teachers and Instrumental Music Instructors. An Instrumental Music Teacher in brass, woodwind and percussion. He has been Musical Director for many stage productions, and has toured Taiwan, Japan, China, Hawaii, New Zealand and numerous parts of Australia with school and community bands and orchestras. He was awarded 2006 Citizen of the Year for services to Logan's youth music.

Alan Smith will be the principal Violin Tutor, conduct the McGregor String Orchestra and produce the evening tutor concerts.
