Phil Ryan from Brisbane

After graduating with a BA in Music performance from the Victorian College of the Arts, Phil began his career as an orchestral trumpeter, first with the Melbourne Symphony Orchestra and later as Principal Trumpet with the Queensland Philharmonic Orchestra. The quality and versatility of his playing was amply demonstrated during his six years as Lead Trumpet and arranger with the popular brass quintet, Brass Razoo, where he extended his playing toward jazz and commercial styles of music. He has continued his interest in brass chamber playing through his brass quartet, Buzz which tours nationally for Musica Viva and the Queensland Arts Council.
