Penelope Gilbert-Ng from Brisbane
Penelope‘s studied at East Sydney Technical College followed by solitary painting in Papua New Guinea for 13 years. On returning to Australia she studied in Australia, New York, and New Mexico. Penelope believes that continual learning is essential for self-development as an artist. She is President and a Master Pastellist with the Pastel Society of Australia, past President and Fellow of the Royal Qld Art Society and sought after tutor with srt societies and groups nationally in all mediums. Penelope has been a finalist in the Archibald and Portia Geach Portrait Prizes and has had numerous solo and joint exhibitions. Her commissioned paintings are represented in corporate/ private collections worldwide. Winner of many competitions combining knowledge and dedication to her art, she has been a judge since 2002. Penelope has written five articles for The Australian Artist Magazine and was invited to demonstrate at the International Association of Pastel Societies (Portraiture) May 2009 Albuquerque, New Mexico.
Class Synopsis
Penelope is an experienced workshop tutor demonstrating each day subjects such as still life, portraiture, landscape, figurative and conceptual abstract in a relaxed atmosphere. The techniques used are applied to a textured surface with emphasis on tone, drawing, colour, shapes, composition and edges. Using the 'less is best' principal the class will focus on creative aspects of painting. Each student is encouraged to expand on their own style with individual tuition.
