McGregor Experience

The 40th Anniversary

The 2008 McGregor Summer School marked a milestone in the history of the Schools, being the 40th consecutive year. There were several functions to celebrate the 40th anniversary of the Schools including a Dinner. Photographs of the School can be found at the Photography website.

We have also compiled an 88 paged colour commemorative book which available for purchase from the School's office for $22.00.

‘The exciting atmosphere generated as part of a period of cultural and educational hot-housing sheltered from normal workday responsibilities and spent in the company of like minded people. It is the emotional experience which is one of the School’s biggest drawcards. Creative people, especially those from rural areas, often go long periods without intense connections with other artists. The McGregor Schools provide an opportunity for creative synergies, that non-residential and single topic workshops do not provide.’

Each year over one-third of the hundreds of students attending the Summer School have attended at least once before. They have returned to experience the 'magic'.

Don Waters is the most inspiring tutor I have yet encountered, leading us from traditional to ‘way-out’ paintings. He inspired the class to find their own method of expression.

Keith Dewell’s class was a truly amazing experience. The development of all students, from beginner to advanced, was quite marked.
