Course Synopsis

Artists' Books are artworks in book form.  In this workshop we will explore and combine both the skills of the bookbinder with those of the artist/illustrator, such that each student produces a unique and original work of art, as a limited edition hard-back book.

Working to a concertina design, each participant will bind a book.  The artwork within the book becomes an integral part of the book's design, and can be drawn, painted, collaged or stamped before, during or following the binding of the book.

Prior art experience is desirable, although prior bookbinding knowledge is unnecessary.

Materials

Estimated material cost: it is not possible to calculate a materials total cost as students can choose from a wide range of materials for their project. Their choices may be broadened or limited according to their budget, a materials list is provided as a guide.
