Class Synopsis

This workshop will explore the techniques and processes necessary for the confident fabrication of jewellery and precious metal work and will cater for absolute beginners to those who have had experience in jewellery making. For those taking their first tentative steps as jewellers, the course will cover all the basic techniques such as sawing, filing, hard silver soldering and polishing and will progress to basic stone setting.

Those who have already taken those steps as jewellers can explore more advanced methods of ring construction (such as hollow box rings, double banded rings, rings with split bands etc.) or more advanced methods of setting stones, or they can create a more advanced piece of their own design.

The skills, once acquired, will enable all participants to fabricate other forms of jewellery such as pendants, bracelets, earrings etc.

Materials

Estimated material cost $200.00 plus for metal and tools, $10 to $20 for wax available from the tutor. Experienced students should have most of the equipment. The materials list contains a list of suggested materials to bring.
