Rex has been a practicing jeweller for more than fifty years and taught in the field of adult vocational education for the last twenty years. He completed a B.A and a B.Ed. (Voc Ed) in the nineties and became Acting Head Teach of Jewellery Trades in TAFE. He has also taught in community colleges; for lapidary clubs and is a regular tutor for the Gemmoloy Association of Australia. He has been the national president of the Gold and Silversmiths Guild of Australia. Rex is a qualified valuer and maintains a successful private practice as a jewellery designer and artisan. Rex is the only Australian jeweller to have won four Diamonds International Awards, the “Oscars” of the worldwide jewellery industry.

Course Synopsis

This always popular course will explore the unique techniques of making jewellery which can be worn in different ways and with interchangeable features such as different gem settings and accessories. These techniques are fun and easily made. Many of them have been developed out of Rex’s award winning jewellery.

This course is fun, exciting and profitable as you value-add your creativity to the traditional materials. Rex does great white board, so come prepared to take notes. A week with Rex will
launch you into months of your own creative exploration. Participants bring their own materials and gems as required.

Estimated material cost:  $60-$90 for silver – Most students will already have the basic tools. To buy all the listed tools may cost approximately $400. A materials list will be provided to students on enrolment, or contact the office if you wish to peruse it before enrolling.
