Julie Shepherd is a ceramic artist specializing in unique original pierced and translucent porcelain n artwork since 1999. She exhibits work frequently and has had eight solo exhibitions of her artwork in the last decade, also winning numerous awards and represented in many regional gallery collections. Julie uses her translucent porcelain artwork to express the fragility of life. To achieve this she has developed advanced skills in working with porcelain to attain exquisitely fine sculptural and functional objects. All this knowledge will enthusiastically be shared with participants of her workshops.
Course Synopsis
This is a skills based workshop with demonstrations and hands on experience in creating and decorating unique sculptural and functional objects in fine pierced and translucent porcelain techniques.
Forms will be created by slip casting Limoges porcelain clay. Easy fast plaster mould making and paper plaster moulds will be demonstrated. Participants will have the opportunity to make small slip casting moulds to take home.
Participants will be able to decorate their porcelain objects with piercing, shellac resist water etching, carving and coloured clay inlay, slip trailing, tissue transfers and using coloured porcelain.
Extensive instruction will be provided as to how to fire, polish porcelain and how to support the porcelain objects during firing to reduce warping.

Estimated cost is $0 to $100, plus $20 materials fee payable to the tutor to cover Limoges porcelain, ceramic colours and other consumables. A materials list is available.
