Maryika is an award winning Queensland based artist who was born and raised in country Victoria. At present she tutors and paints mainly with mixed mediums and has an interest in creativity, colour, design and printmaking. She has studied the Visual Arts Diploma at South Queensland Institute of T.A.F.E., Toowoomba and has also studied at the North Adelaide School of Art in 1992. Her work was accepted and exhibited at the Queensland Museum, during the 8th Festival of Polish Visual and Performing Arts, from December 2000 to January 2001. As well as exhibiting in Hong Kong, in 2004, her work is well represented overseas and extensively in Australian private and corporate collections. One of her commissions has been published in "Peoplescape", produced by the National Council for the Centenary of Federation, 2002.

Course Synopsis

Through demonstration and techniques, students will be encouraged to explore creatively mixed mediums incorporating acrylics, texture, collage, charcoal, some print making methods and more.

The intention for the student is to embark on a journey of self discovery through the creative process of painting. Students will be encouraged to develop a playful response and expression that may be individual of vision and that requires an outlet or visual voice. Creating art is an activity that relies on the extremes of spontaneity and discipline.

The philosophy for the duration will be - "go with guts and grace".
