Since graduating from the Queensland College of Art in 1988 with Honours and receiving the AIMBI Student of the Year award for best overall achievement for a technical subject, Don has undertaken various disciplines in photography, including: documentation of medical procedures at the Princess Alexandra Hospital; commercial/product photography in and around Brisbane and the Gold Coast and working for the University of Southern Queensland Multi Media photography Services department as their senior photographer. Over the last 8 years Don has tutored in traditional darkroom processing and printing methods, film and digital studio photography, digital photography and Photoshop techniques. Don currently undertakes freelance photography specializing in commercial/industrial photography and the documentation of artworks for local and international artists.   He also works with Revive Lifestyle magazines for the APN group.

Course Synopsis

This is a beginner to intermediate workshop who have a basic working knowledge of digital photography and their cameras.  A sound understanding of your Windows operating systems and a basic understanding of Adobe Photoshop would also be beneficial, as this workshop will cover both digital photograph as well as Adobe Photoshop techniques.

You will have the opportunity to:
• Photograph Brisbane models in a temporary studio and outdoors in the Japanese Gardens
• Photograph other on campus Winter School workshops and activities
• Explore the endless possibilities that Adobe Photoshop has to offer

On completion of the workshop you will have a better understanding of:
• How to better use your digital camera
• Determining the correct exposure
• Working with light
• Achieving better photographic workflow practices
• Retouching and repairing images in Photoshop
• Working with layers
