Digital Photography - Intermediate to Advanced

This is an intermediate to advanced workshop for students who have a good knowledge of digital photography and their cameras.  An understanding of Adobe Photoshop would also be beneficial, as this workshop will cover both digital photography as well as Adobe Photoshop techniques. It’s intensive and designed for those who are eager to take the next step in digital photography.

You will have the opportunity to:

Photograph Brisbane models in a temporary studio and outdoors
Photograph other on campus McGregor workshops and activities
Produce a photographic panorama (providing you have a tripod)

• Produce a magazine style front cover

On completion of the workshop you will have a better understanding of:

• Choosing appropriate file formats
• Working with light
• Determining the correct exposure
• Retouching and repairing images in Photoshop
• Working with layers
• Using Non destructive image adjustments
• Automation techniques
• An introduction into Colour management ICC profiling

N.B.  Due to software licensing, students are to bring their own computers loaded with Adobe Photoshop CS3, plus printers, etc.  A 30 day trial version of Adobe Photoshop CS3 can be obtained from the Adobe website: http://www.adobe.com under Trial Downloads and can be activated for the course.

Estimated material cost: Negligible, assuming student owns a computer. 

After graduating from the Queensland College of Art  with Honours, Don’s work has included: documentation of medical procedures at the Princess Alexandra Hospital; commercial/industrial photography in South East Queensland: working for the University of Southern Queensland Photography Department as their senior photographer.
Over the last seven years he has tutored in traditional darkroom processing and printing methods, film and digital studio photography, and Photoshop techniques. Don currently undertakes freelance photography specialising in commercial/industrial photography and the documentation of artworks for local and international artists. Don also works with Revive Lifestyle magazines for the APN media group.
