Exploring Water-based MediumsTutor in ResidenceHerman Pekel - Melbourne
The class will explore water-based mediums, mainly acrylics, using them in an opaque fashion or transparent, like watercolours. Most subjects will be covered – eg. landscapes, seascapes, interiors, street and urban scenes. Herman will cover most topics including tone, colour, composition and many different techniques, and will give daily demonstrations. The course will also include a couple of sessions of plein air painting (weather permitting). This will be a relaxed, fun course, where students will not only produce several paintings but gain a wealth of knowledge. Estimated material cost: Negligible-Experienced students should have most materials Born in Melbourne, Herman is a painter with a Fine Arts degree from RMIT and a Diploma of Teaching from Melbourne University. He has been a full time painter since 1987. Herman won the Camberwell Rotary’s Gold Medal Watercolour Prize in 1995, 1993 and 1989 and has been a finalist in Camberwell’s Travel Scholarship award. He has won the Alice Bale Watercolour Prize twice and the Travel Scholarship in 1989. Herman has had 15 solo exhibitions since 1973. His works are featured in “Australian Impressionist Realist Artists” and “120 Years of Watercolour” by the Australian Realist Artists. |
