Drawing Media
Box of willow charcoal- thick and medium
Four sticks of compressed charcoal- grade: soft or very soft
Pastels / conte crayons soft chalk type. White, light cream, red ochre ,sienna, blue, dark brown.
2B,4B,6B,8B Pencils and/or graphite sticks 2B4B to 8B. Progresso and Faeber Castel
Inks Art Spectrum. Black, Burnt Sienna or sepia. Art Spectrum water resistant inks are good for layering and washing back as opposed to waterproof ink which gets very dark when used freely ..
Gum tree sticks. Pen nib and holder. Rec. Speed ball type wide and thinner.
2 floppy brushes mop type or long flat Ox hair Francheville 450
Bowl and plate for ink washes
Wax candles plus a few coloured oil or wax crayons. Off white brown light blue ochre
Cotton rags to rub charcoal and cardboard blender
Paper for Drawing
20 sheets of thicker cartidge or 150 grms canson or similar, A1 size.
Cartridge pad or cheaper A1 size paper.
Other quality papers depending on budget: stone henge, 300gms Waterford or Arches or Fabriano
Brown craft paper, thick. OA or double A1 in size. Can be primed for painting or drawn on in mixed media just raw.
Canson or Aqua Paper OA size for larger mixed media work.
SOLID EASEL if poss. Metal landscape easels are versatile and have some steadiness as a rule……The McGregor Schools supply timber A-frame easels - let the School know if you are bringing your own.
ALSO a cheap plastic ground sheet from Woolies.
Painting Medium
Some white and black gouache or acrylic could come in handy and perhaps a few other basic colours OPTIONAL could be used with pastel.
150ml tubes –of 1) Titanium white, 2) Black, 3)Lemon Yellow, 4)Cadmium Red. 5) Phtalo Blue or Prussian blue, 6) Yellow ochre or Raw Sienna, 11) Burnt Umber / Raw Umber, 12) Burnt Sienna
GOUACHE high pigment solid colour suitable for wash like watercolour soft and more subtle. Good with drawing media. Colour range similar to above.
Thick better quality papers for mixed media. Waterford, Fabriano, common size 56x76 cm. Larger canson Fabriano etc on rolls can be cut. Craft paper as discussed earlier.
Brushes
Range of 4 brushes from ¼ inch to 1.5 inch wide hog hair or Nos. 5 to 16 flat and / or round. Cheaper house painting brushes 1.5 to 2.5 inches wide.
Coffee mug – tea, coffee, milk and sugar are not supplied by the School. Classes pool funds to buy supplies for the week which can be stored in the Tea Room provided. Please note that students are responsible for keeping their allocated tea room clean and tidy.
IMPORTANT: All electrical equipment required for your class at USQ must be ‘tag-tested' by a qualified electrician prior to arrival in order to comply with safety rules. Eg: extension cords and hair dryers etc.

HAZARDOUS SUBSTANCES AND MATERIAL SAFETY DATA SHEETS
If you bring any hazardous substance to the McGregor School, could you please ensure that you obtain a MSDS (Material Safety Data Sheet) from the supplier or obtain one from the manufacturer of this substance.
To do this, either ask the supplier from whom you purchase the hazardous substance, or read the contact details on the hazardous substance and contact the manufacturer and ask for a MSDS). Once you have obtained the MSDS, bring it with you to the school, and hand in a copy to the McGregor School office and or the Tutor.
Hazardous substance can be: e.g. solvents, acids, some paint and glues, chemicals, fixatives, fluxes and solders.
If you are unsure, the Supplier and or manufacturer should be able to inform you if the substance is classed as hazardous.
