French Ultramarine Blue
Phthalo Blue (or Winsor Prussian Blue)
Permanent Alizarin Crimson (or Art Spectrum Permanent Crimson)
Quinacridone Gold (or Indian Yellow)
White Gouache
Small container of Gesso
A couple of tubes or acrylic paint - medium Magenta is John’s favourite at the moment
Ink
Burnt Sienna pigment ink (Art Spectrum) – screw cap on tight and seal in zip lock plastic bay if flying.
Plain dip in pen and nib
Brushes
1” flat Taklon (One Stroke)
¼” flat Taklon (One Stroke)
1/8” flat Taklon (One Stroke)
#1 or #2 Taklon liner
Neef are a good brand of Taklon brush
An old ½’ bristle house painting brush (John can supply these)
2” or 3” Hake brush or wide soft goat hair brush
Palette
Enamel or plastic palette
Pencils
A couple of Schwan Stabillo or Conte, pastel pencils
A black and a white charcoal pencil
A couple of Derwent inktense pencils
…..and a craft knife to keep them sharp
Paper
John prefers Arches Watercolour blocks 300gsm (140lb) 26x36cm (approx. 10” x 14”) or John also carries sheets of Arches paper cut into quarters and tape them onto a core flute backing board with masking tape as he paints on them. For two weeks he carries around 25 quarter sheets
Miscellaneous
old towel – handing for adjusting the amount of water in your brush
Masking tape
Plastic cup/small bucket for water
Atomiser painting water bottle
PVA glue or acrylic matt varnish (small container)
Small sketch pad
Coffee mug, tea, coffee, milk and sugar are not supplied by the School. Classes can pool funds to buy supplies for the week which can be stored in the Tea Room provided. Please note that students are responsible for keeping their allocated tea room clean and tidy.
IMPORTANT: All electrical equipment required for your class at USQ must be ‘tag-tested’ by a qualified electrician prior to arrival in order to comply with safety rules. Eg: extension cords and hair dryers etc.
Estimated material cost: up to $100.00 – experienced students should have most materials
HAZARDOUS SUBSTANCES AND MATERIAL SAFETY DATA SHEETS
If you bring any hazardous substance to the McGregor School, could you please ensure that you obtain a MSDS (Material Safety Data Sheet) from the supplier or obtain one from the manufacturer of this substance.
To do this, either ask the supplier from whom you purchase the hazardous substance, or read the contact details on the hazardous substance and contact the manufacturer and ask for a MSDS). Once you have obtained the MSDS, bring it with you to the school, and hand in a copy to the McGregor School office and or the Tutor.
Hazardous substance can be: e.g. solvents, acids, some paint and glues, chemicals, fixatives, fluxes and solders.
If you are unsure, the Supplier and or manufacturer should be able to inform you if the substance is classed as hazardous.
