Students should bring own jewellery tools if they have them; stones and silver sheet and wire if they have any.
Stones can be either cabochon or faceted. Round stone preferred for beginners
Note pad and pen for notes and small sketch pad (optional)

Dremel or flex-drive if you have one (must be tag-tested by qualified electrician prior to arrival)
As this work is very fine and close, magnifiers or stronger glasses may be needed.
The School will provide safety goggles but if you have your own, please bring them.
Mask - in accordance with Health & Safety regulations
Covered-in shoes must be worn in all workshops
Coffee mug (tea, coffee, milk, sugar etc are not supplied by the School)

Tools required:
Jewellers saw frame (non-adjustable preferred but not essential) - $13.00
Saw blades size 2/0 best purchased in a pack of 12 dozen bundles) - $40.70
Stainless steel tweezers - $8.00
Files – half round needle file (no. 2 cut) - $11.00
half round ring file (16 mm wide no. 2 cut) - $45.32
Jewellers snips
Half round pliers – a kit of 4 stainless steel pliers and jewellers snips
can be purchased for cheaper than individual purchase - $40.70

Metal:
Copper sheet for preliminary practice for beginners – 70mm square
Sterling silver sheet – 1.00mm thick for general work
Sterling silver sheet – 0.5mm thick
Round sterling silver wire – 1.00mm thick
Silver solder – easy, medium and hard

Tools and silver etc will be available from suppliers prior to commencement of the course at the School.

The price of silver sheet and wire depends on weight
A silver sheet - 100mm x 30mm x 1mm costs approx $45
- 100mm x 30mm x 1mm costs approx $22
1 m of 1mm sterling silver wire costs approx $12

Sterling silver prices are approximate only as prices are subject to change.

Tutor will provide own tools for use in class (including saw frames, pliers, some ring files and needle files etc) for students use.

Tools and silver etc are available from suppliers prior to commencement. Australian Jewellers’ Supplies and House of Jewellery will have a representative at the School on the morning of Monday 4 July.

Materials which can be purchased from the tutor at the School:

Copper sheet for preliminary practise for beginners will be supplied by the tutor at the cost of $2.50 per piece.
Stones and some silver
Stones vary between $5 and $150 approx
Emery paper - $1.50 per sheet
Silver depends on quantity


IMPORTANT: All electrical equipment required for your class at USQ must be ‘tag-tested’ by a qualified electrician prior to arrival in order to comply with Queensland Workplace Health & Safety legislation. Items include: extension cords, all power tools etc.

HAZARDOUS SUBSTANCES AND MATERIAL SAFETY DATA SHEETS.
If you bring any hazardous substance to the McGregor School, could you please ensure that you obtain a MSDS (Material Safety Data Sheet) from the supplier or obtain one from the manufacturer of this substance.
To do this, either ask the supplier from whom you purchase the hazardous substance, or read the contact details on the hazardous substance and contact the manufacturer and ask for a MSDS). Once you have obtained the MSDS, bring it with you to the school, and hand in a copy to the McGregor School office and or the Tutor.
Hazardous substance can be: e.g. solvents, acids, some paint and glues, chemicals, fixatives, fluxes and solders.
If you are unsure, the Supplier and or manufacturer should be able to inform you if the substance is classed  as hazardous.
