Sewing Equipment
Sewing machine and equipment (bobbin, spare needles etc) – must be tagged and tested
Dressmaker’s pins, quick unpick, fabric scissors
Sewing thread to match chosen fabric
Fabric
2 metres woven iron-on interfacing medium weight (Armour Weft, available from Spotlight)
1 metre fabric, per hat, in chosen colour, something with a bit of body (e.g. cotton, patchwork cotton, drill, light weight furnishing cotton etc) – expect to make at least 2 hats in this workshop
½ metre of fine cotton fabric (poplin) for lining in matching colour to chosen fabric, per hat
½ metre silk organza fabric (synthetic is okay) in preferred colour
1 metre of pleated crinoline
1 metre of plain crinoline
1 metre veiling
1 metre of calico
Scraps of fabric min 20cm square e.g. silk, glitz, satin, chiffon etc
½ metre of vliesofix or applique paper
Other Equipment
Paper for drafting patterns minimum 5 sheets (e.g. butchers paper from art shop)
1m square thick floor vinyl or thick packing cardboard (strong) – you need to be able to stick a drawing pin into it – also foam board is good (from art shops)
Square ruler or protractor
Long ruler and a clear plastic ruler
Tape measure with hole in end (very important)
Pencil, sharpener, eraser
Fine felt tip marker pen
Pen and notebook
Ideas, pictures of hats
Hat stand or polystyrene hat block (if you have one)
Fascinator base
Rotary cutter, cutting mat and ruler (if you have them)
Other, any of the following – buttons, beads, buckles (only if you have them already)
Tutor will have for sale pleated crinoline and plain crinoline in limited colours from $5 per metre, veiling from $8 per metre, fascinator bases, feathers and iron-on interfacing.
Coffee mug, tea, coffee, milk and sugar are not supplied by the School. Classes can pool funds to buy supplies for the week which can be stored in the Tea Room provided. Please note that students are responsible for keeping their allocated tea room clean and tidy.
IMPORTANT: All electrical equipment required for your class at USQ must be ‘tag-tested’ by a qualified electrician prior to arrival in order to comply with safety rules. Eg: extension cords and hair dryers, sewing machines etc.

HAZARDOUS SUBSTANCES AND MATERIAL SAFETY DATA SHEETS.
If you bring any hazardous substance to the McGregor School, could you please ensure that you obtain a MSDS (Material Safety Data Sheet) from the supplier or obtain one from the manufacturer of this substance.
To do this, either ask the supplier from whom you purchase the hazardous substance, or read the contact details on the hazardous substance and contact the manufacturer and ask for a MSDS). Once you have obtained the MSDS, bring it with you to the school, and hand in a copy to the McGregor School office and or the Tutor.
Hazardous substance can be: e.g. solvents, acids, some paint and glues, chemicals, fixatives, fluxes and solders.
If you are unsure, the Supplier and or manufacturer should be able to inform you if the substance is classed as hazardous.
