African Cultural Day

2009

The USQ Multicultural Centre once again celebrated “African Cultural Day”, which successfully brought together the University and local communities, providing a unique opportunity to share and experience some of the different cultures whose origins are from the continent of Africa to include countries such as Botswana, Sierra Leon, Uganda, Nigeria, Sudan, Liberia and Chad.  This was accomplished through the use of traditional dance, music and singing.  African food stalls invited visitors to partake in the tasting of food with its original flavours and which was cooked in such a manner as to be uniquely African.  There was a tent which displayed African apparel and artefacts in addition to the presentation of traditional dance which was representative of themes such as health, travel and the love of the land that originates from different parts of the continent of Africa.

African fashion was highly visible with the event participants, African students and community members proudly wearing traditional attire.  This year’s event attracted students and members of the local community whose country of origin was not represented at last years USQ African Cultural Day.

The celebration was held at USQ Toowoomba campus quadrangle on Wednesday 7 October 2009 beginning at 12:00 noon with the completion of activities at 2:00pm.
