Saudi Arabia National Day

2011

This is the third year the USQ Multicultural Centre along with the Saudi Arabia Student Club of Toowoomba organised to recognise and commemorate Saudi Arabia's National Day.

This year the activities took place on Wednesday 5 October 2011 during the University common hours 12:00noon and 2:00pm at the USQ Toowoomba campus Quadrangle. As in previous years the students provided visitors with traditional coffee and treats in addition to free traditional food providing a flavour of Saudi Arabia's culture. Visitors were encouraged to join the celebration through dance.

The National Anthem was played while the flag of Saudi Arabia was raised in the Quadrangle.

Historical and contemporary architecture along with some of Saudi Arabia daily life and cultural dress were displayed via posters and videos played on two largre screen televisions. There were many people from varied cultural backgrounds who shared in the celebrations with the Saudi Arabian USQ students.

2010

Once again the USQ Multicultural Centre, in cooperation with the Saudi Arabia Student's Club of Toowoomba, jointly organised a commemoration of Saudi Arabia's National Day.

This event was held on Wednesday 20 October 2010 starting at 12:00 noon and finishing at 2:00pm in the USQ Toowoomba Quadrangle.

Two tents were set up to provide visitors with a glimpse of Saudi Arabia’s rich historical culture, These were elaborately decorated with traditional rugs and other exotic furnishings which, once inside transported the visitor to Saudi Arabia. Two video displays, providing short documentary sequences of life in the Kingdom of Saudi Arabia completed the arrangements. Opportunities were also available for visitors to have a photo taken in traditional Saudi customary attire for both men and women.

A National Anthem and flag raising ceremony took place in the Quadrangle while free coffee and traditional food was also offered to guests.
