Multicultural and Multilingual Student Association

The Multicultural and Multilingual Student Association (MMSA) is a student organisation which serves to:

  • promote campus awareness of cultural diversity - students helping students to overcome study difficulties
  • provide students, whose first language is other than English, an opportunity to support each other and address problems or issues
  • provide a forum for new students from different cultural and linguistic backgrounds to meet other students who can assist them settle in to university life.

Membership benefits

  • sharing culture, ideas, organising cultural activities, have questions answered and seek help or assistance as required
  • students have a unique situation to form a network that allows students to help and support each other
  • guest speakers covering relevant issues identified by members of the Association
  • educational tours to historical places and other universities
  • possible trips to some exciting places like Gold Coast, Australian Zoo, Dream World, Movie World, etc.

Membership categories

  1. Active membership consists of current USQ students who are Australian citizens or permanent residents and who's first language is other than English.
  2. Associate membership consists of alumni and honorary members.

Executive powers

All executive powers of the Multicultural and Multilingual Student Association (MMSA) are vested in the Director and Manager, Multicultural Centre; MMSA President; and General Secretary in close cooperation with the Multicultural Centre.

Social events

Past events held include:

  • Sudanese Cultural Day
  • MMSA free BBQ
  • Bunka no hi (Japanese cultural day)
  • Chinese Mooncake festival
