University of Southern Queensland Fraser Coast students have taken to heart the theme of this year’s Mental Health Week by ‘getting active, getting connected and staying involved’.

More than 100 students attended the lunch-time activities at USQ Fraser Coast during Mental Health Week.

Community organisations such as Headspace, Lifeline, Queensland Health and Centrecare joined the campus’s Student Services and the Student Guild to provide information stands and a free barbecue lunch.

To keep the body active, students also attended a free Body Balance workshop.
USQ Fraser Coast Careers Counsellor Jenny Gunn said it was a most successful day.

‘Students were enthusiastic and got involved in a competition which required them to visit each of the information booths,’ Mrs Gunn said.

‘This encouraged the students to interact with the representatives of the organisations attending so we were able to offer lots of information on mental health issues. (The winners of the book vouchers were: Brenton Rohrlach and Dianne Waters.)

‘Our psychology and Human Services (counselling) students were able to ask about the possibility of working for these organisations also.’

Mental Health Week events aim to raise awareness of the importance of mental health and wellbeing in the wider community.
