Mr Barry Mottram, USQ’s Chief Financial Officer will be calling it a day and retiring after 16 years of service.

Barry originally started as a Policy and Staff Development Accountant before progressing to the position of Senior Management Accountant, Group Manager Finance and Facilities and finally, Chief Financial Officer.

Barry has enjoyed his time at USQ having a great number of accomplishments on his record. It is however, his fellow employees, he will miss in his retirement.

‘USQ has a great number of talented staff and it has been great working with them – it certainly has made my professional life a lot easier,’ Barry said.

‘I have been in many projects and if we are going to get into it, I could give you some particular achievements but I would have to say that working with and being supported by a great staff has been my highlight.

‘It has also been great to progress my career and grow with USQ over the years.’

Barry knows that a strange time is ahead of him where a life without meetings and a day mapped out beckons.

‘That is something most people face and it is a pretty good thing to be facing, isn’t it?

‘I will be doing a bit of travelling with my wife after I finish. We plan to travel overseas and in Australia. After that I will look to see what I can do to keep busy.

‘I am also looking forward to spending a lot of time with my grandkids as my first granddaughter was born in March.’

Barry will follow the continuing development of USQ with great interest as he has a strong connection having studied at DDIAE in the early 1970’s.

‘I studied at DDIAE in the early 1970s, so I have seen the place develop from a couple of buildings into what it is today.

‘I was also the first generation in my family to go into higher education so it really makes me appreciate the need for regional universities.’

‘I am looking forward to spending more time with my wife, family and grand children, but I will miss my colleagues here. It will certainly be a huge change.’

Barry will leave USQ on 13 January 2012 and succession plans will soon be announced.
