Launch of new programs in 2012 for Springfield campus.

USQ Springfield campus will begin 2012 offering a range of popular new programs including a Bachelor of Arts and new Education and Psychology programs.

Springfield campus Director Mr Doug Fraser said the campus would offer the Bachelor of Arts program for the first time in 2012.

'When completing the Bachelor of Arts program, students will have the opportunity to undertake majors in Journalism and English Literature or a minor in History,' Mr Fraser said.

'Through the Journalism major they can prepare for a career as a journalist or related field by reporting, writing, editing, designing and producing for the web, television, radio, newspapers and magazines.

'Students completing the English Literature major will develop skills in forming critical arguments, conducting research and documenting evidence, encouraging them to become analytical and expressive writers.

'They will examine both the great texts and innovative and contemporary works of poetry, prose, drama, film, new media and critical essays, leading to career options including librarianship, teaching, publishing, media and the public service.'

Springfield campus will also offer for the first time in 2012 the Bachelor of Education (Secondary) and a Sport, Health and Physical Education specialised Education degree.

'The Bachelor of Education (Sport, Health and Physical Education) will allow students to develop practical skills through involvement in coaching and similar accreditation courses that value add to any teaching degree.

'The Sport, Health and Physical Education degree is available with a specialisation in the Primary or Secondary areas and is designed for students who wish to work in learning communities such as schools as well as those who are interested in coaching, recreation and the sport, health and fitness industries.'

Mr Fraser said the final new program to be offered at Springfield in 2012 was the Postgraduate Diploma of Professional Psychology. 'This program has been developed to meet the needs of psychologists wishing to complete professional registration requirements under the 5+1 model which involves one year of full-time university study at the postgraduate level followed by one year of supervised practice in the workplace.

'The Springfield campus continues to grow the number of program offerings each year in line with the demand from students.

'With student numbers rising we are continually reviewing the programs offered to meet the needs of the community.'
