Logie-award winning Australian actress Carol Burns will be sharing her knowledge and experience with University of Southern Queensland theatre students and the Toowoomba community this week.
Carol is a founding member of the Queensland Theatre Company and is best known for her portrayal of tough bikie Franky Doyle in the television show “Prisoner” as well as her roles in movies The Mango Tree, Starstruck, Strikebound and Bad Blood and numerous productions throughout Australia.
She will be presenting a lunchtime talk on Wednesday, September 5, at the Arts Theatre in A-Block at noon and USQ staff and students and the general public are invited to attend.
In addition to her talk, Carol will be working with first and second year theatre and acting students, sharing her experiences and helping them improve their skills and performances.
USQ lecturer in Theatre Bernadette Meenach said it was an exciting opportunity to have the 37-year stage veteran teach and talk at the university.
‘She’s worked in a wide variety of media for a number of years and will have a lot of experience to share with the students,’ Mrs Meenach said.
‘She’ll be working with students on both the business side and the creative side of acting and the theatre.
‘We were lucky enough to have Carol here a number of years ago and the students she worked with really took her advice in and went on to become quite successful.’
Carol will be in Toowoomba for the next few months to direct the Empire Theatre’s production of the Australian comedy “The Female of the Species”.
