Rounding off a year of success, USQ graduate Ben Rayward was named Australian Project Manager of the Year at the Australian Institute of Project Management Achievement Awards Ceremony held in Melbourne last week (9 October).

Mr Rayward, who graduated with a Masters of Business Administration from USQ and has continued to work with the university, was also named Project Manager of the Year at the Australian Institute of Project Managers (AIPM) Queensland Achievement Awards in September.

USQ Senior Lecturer in Project Management, Dr Jon Whitty said Mr Rayward’s achievements were testament to his outstanding work and professionalism in the industry.

'Mr Rayward is a Principal at Point Project Management and maintains an involvement with the AIPM as a Certified Practicing Project Director and Engineers Australia as a Certified Practising Engineer,' Dr Whitty said.

'He has worked on major projects for the National Health Service in the United Kingdom, Defence in Australia and the establishment of a Project Delivery Framework and Program Management for the largest superannuation fund in Papua New Guinea.

'He has also managed projects for Blue Care, Anglicare and the Gold Coast Commonwealth Games Corporation.

'We wish Ben all the best in his future endeavours and look forward to working with him in the future.'

Mr Rayward has invested in his progression through undertaking further studies including the USQ postgraduate degree while working full-time.

'I firmly believe that professional excellence is achieved through a balanced combination of ‘on the job’ practical experience supported by a robust understanding of theory,' Mr Rayward said.

'Successful projects are not delivered by an individual and I’d like to thank all of the great people I’ve had the pleasure of working with over the year.'

The AIPM is Australia’s leading governing body in Project Management and the Achievement Awards recognise the highest level of project management excellence in the nation.

The Achievement Awards recognise, honour and promote outstanding achievements in program and project management.
